SUPPORT

Help Center

We are here to help. From installing the extension to hosting or joining a watch party, find answers for everything CineCoop.

General questions

Does each participant need their own Netflix or streaming account?

Yes. Everyone must be able to play the same title on their own account (Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Prime Video, Max, Hulu, etc.). CineCoop syncs playback — it does not share a login or subscription.

How many people can join a session?

Up to 4 people per watch party: 1 host and 3 guests. This limit is shown in the extension when you create or join a session.

Which countries does CineCoop work in?

CineCoop does not block countries on its own: the extension works anywhere you can use Chrome on desktop and access a supported streaming platform. Movie and show availability depends on your streaming subscription and region, not CineCoop.

Which streaming services are supported?

Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max / Max, Prime Video, Apple TV, Paramount+, Canal+, Crunchyroll, Peacock, Spotify, and many other platforms listed in the extension. See the full list on the Platforms page.

Installation guide

Where can I install CineCoop?

Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store using the Install CineCoop button on our site. CineCoop is a Google Chrome extension (and Chromium browsers such as Edge, Brave, and Opera) on desktop.

If you are testing a local build, load the extension folder in developer mode from chrome://extensions.

How do I check that CineCoop is installed?

Look for the blue CP icon in the Chrome toolbar (puzzle menu → pin CineCoop if it is hidden). On a supported video page, the icon becomes active and the CineCoop panel appears on the player.

How do I uninstall or reinstall CineCoop?

Open chrome://extensions, find CineCoop, then click Remove. To reinstall, download the latest version from the Chrome Web Store or reload the folder in developer mode.

After reinstalling, refresh the streaming tab and create or rejoin the session if needed.

Why does Chrome ask for permissions?

CineCoop needs access to supported platform tabs for sync and chat, storage for your preferences, and optionally identity for Discord sign-in. The extension does not run on every website — only on streaming URLs listed in the manifest.

Host a session

How do I host a watch party with the browser extension?
  1. Open a movie or episode on a supported site and start playback.
  2. Click the CineCoop icon → Start session.
  3. Copy the invite link and share it with friends.
  4. Optional: turn on Only I have control to keep play/pause control.
Why can’t I start a session even though the extension is installed?

Most common causes:

  • You are not on a playback page (you need an episode or movie playing, not just the service home screen).
  • The video has not started yet — press Play first.
  • The site is not on the list of supported platforms.
  • The extension is disabled or outdated — reinstall the latest version.
How many people can join? Does everyone need a streaming account?

Maximum 4 people (host included). Each participant needs their own access to the same title on their platform. CineCoop aligns play, pause, and seek — it does not stream the video for you.

How do I invite friends?

After starting a session, copy the invite link from the CineCoop popup or panel, then send it by message, email, or Discord. Friends open the link, install the extension if needed, then open the same content on their account.

What does “Only I have control” do?

When this option is on, only the host can play, pause, or seek for the whole group. Guests stay in sync but do not control the shared timeline.

Join a session

How do I join a friend’s watch party?
  1. Open the invite link sent by the host.
  2. Install CineCoop if you have not already.
  3. Open the same movie or episode on your streaming service — playback syncs with the host.
Do I need a streaming account to join?

Yes to watch the content: you must be able to play the same title on your own subscription. For sync alone, the extension and a compatible browser are enough; chat and some social options may require Discord (see below).

How many people can join a session?

Up to 3 guests plus the host, for 4 participants total. If the session is full, ask the host to start a new watch party.

Do I need Discord to join?

No to watch and stay in sync. Discord is useful if you want group chat, Tenor GIFs, or profile-related social features.

We are on different episodes — can we still sync?

Everyone must be on the same season and episode (or the same movie). Ask the host to pause, align your player to the same moment, then resume together.

Chat settings

How do I customize my avatar or icon?

Sign in with Discord from the CineCoop popup: your Discord profile photo appears in chat and the member list. Without sign-in, a generated avatar from your display name is used.

How do I change my chat display name?

With Discord connected, your Discord username appears in the session. Without sign-in, you show as “Guest” (or “You” for yourself). The host may appear with the host label in the member list.

How do I invite friends from chat?

The watch party invite link is still the main way: copy it from the CineCoop popup or panel and share it in chat or elsewhere. As long as the session is active and spots remain, friends can join.

How do I hide the chat sidebar?

In the extension popup → Party Settings → turn off Show Chat Sidebar. The on-page chat panel stays hidden until you turn it back on.

Is voice and video chat available?

Yes. Optional mic and camera buttons are available in the chat panel during a session. Streams are shared between participants through your browser; CineCoop does not record your conversations on our servers.

Who can use the camera and microphone?

Any participant already in the active session can turn on mic or camera if they grant browser permissions. Close other apps (Zoom, Teams, etc.) that are using the device if the button does not respond.

How do I send GIFs in chat?

Tap the GIF button in chat and search for a clip. Results come from Tenor; your search terms are sent to their API as described in our privacy policy.

Privacy and security

Is CineCoop safe?

CineCoop is built to sync playback and enable chat between friends. We do not capture video streams from Netflix, YouTube, or other platforms, and we do not sell your data. Sync uses a peer-to-peer connection (PeerJS) between browsers for play/pause/seek signals.

As with any extension, install CineCoop only from a trusted source (Chrome Web Store or official build) and never share your streaming passwords.

What data does CineCoop collect?

Session sync signals, optional chat messages, optional Discord profile if you sign in, and local preferences. See our privacy policy for details.

Is my video recorded or hosted by CineCoop?

No. Only playback signals (play, pause, position) are exchanged between participants. Content stays on your usual streaming service.

Features

Is CineCoop free? Is there a Premium subscription?

CineCoop is completely free. There is no Premium subscription, paid trial, or hidden pricing in the current extension. You need your own subscriptions to the streaming services you watch.

What is included for free?
  • Watch parties for up to 4 people
  • Play / pause / seek sync
  • Invite link and optional host control
  • Sidebar chat, Tenor GIFs, optional mic and camera
  • Compatibility with many streaming platforms
Do I need a CineCoop account?

No, to start or join a session. A Discord account is recommended if you want to customize your chat profile and use all social features.

How does playback sync work?

When the host plays, pauses, or seeks, other browsers follow through a peer-to-peer connection. If playback drifts, the host can pause and resume; guests can also refresh the tab and rejoin.

Troubleshooting

Start by updating or reinstalling CineCoop to get the latest version, then refresh the streaming tab. If the issue continues, email us with your browser, the site you used, and steps you already tried.

Netflix or other platform errors during playback

Error messages (M7111, unable to play, etc.) usually come from the streaming service, not CineCoop. Try playing the video alone without a session, check your connection, sign out and back into the service, or try another episode.

If the error only appears during a watch party, leave the session, refresh the tab, reinstall the extension if needed, then rejoin.

The CineCoop icon is grayed out

Open a supported streaming site and start a video (playback page, not just the home screen). The extension only activates on compatible URLs.

The invite link does not work

Check that CineCoop is installed, the host session is still active, and you open the same title on your account. Ask the host for a new link from their popup.

Playback is out of sync
  • The host pauses and resumes playback.
  • Refresh the tab and rejoin the session.
  • Wait if someone is buffering — sync resumes when their stream stabilizes.
Chat messages are not sending

Click Login in the CineCoop popup and connect Discord. Chat stays disabled until you are signed in.

Camera or microphone will not start

Allow access in Chrome, close other apps using the device, and confirm you are in an active CineCoop session.
